Rose geranium is a hairy perennial shrub growing up to 1m. It has pointed leaves, serrated at the edges, and pinkish-white flowers. |
| History | The family Geraniaceae contains three genera: Geranium, Erodium, and Pelargonium. The names, derived from the three Greek words meaning crane, heron, and stork, refer to the resemblance of the seed case to the slender bills of these three birds. |

Rose geranium has traditionally been known to help balance hormones as well as help alleviate PMS related symptoms. It is also one of the most fragrant essential oils available and is used extensively in the perfumery and cosmetics industry. Prized for its beneficial effects for skincare, the female reproductive system, the nervous system, and the lymphatic/endocrine system. It is indicated for balancing both dry and oily skin and the production of the skin's sebum. A very versatile oil, rose geranium can be used to help in the treatment of acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, lice, mosquito repellent, ringworm, ulcers, poor circulation, sore throat, stress, and neuralgia. Geranium essential oil is also noted for its benefits in relaxing the body and relieving tension. |
