Description A tall tropical tree about 20 metres high with large, tender, fragrant pink, mauve or yellow flowers. The name means 'flower of flowers'.
History In Indonesia, Ylang-ylang flower petals are strewn upon the bed of newlywed couples. Ylang-ylang was a popular ingredient of hair preparations in Europe and was known as Macassar oil. Ylang-ylang is often referred to as "poor man's jasmine".
Properties/Actions Aphrodisiac, antidepressant, antiseborrhoeic, antiseptic, hypotensive, nervine appeasing, calming, euphoric, regulating, soothing and sedative.
Common Uses Ylang ylang has sensual, soothing and deeply relaxing properties that uplift the spirit and promote a sense of self confidence and ease which can help with anxiety, tension, shock, fear and panic.
Warming, comforting and balancing it helps maintain healthy circulation and is particularly useful with rapid breathing and rapid heartbeat, it can also help with reducing high blood pressure and useful for intestinal infections.
Known to encourage healthy, shiny hair and is ideal for both oily and dry skin the oil has a soothing and balancing effect.
It is also an aphrodisiac and  has been found effective in reducing sexual difficulties like impotence and frigidity resulting from anxiety, stress, and depression.
Blends well with Lavender, grapefruit, neroli, rosewood, sandalwood,  clary sage, bergamot, patchouli, jasmine, rose, vetivert and lemon
Caution Use in moderation, as its heady scent can cause headaches and nausea.  Could irritate sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid during pregnancy. Store in a cool, dark place. For external use only.
